1965 Ford Mustang Fastback GT350 Evocation

Oxford White | 289 V8 | Automatic

Finished in timeless Oxford White with contrasting black GT350 styling cues, this beautifully presented early Mustang Fastback offers all the visual impact, character and V8 soundtrack of Shelby’s legendary GT350, at a fraction of the cost.

Imported to the UK in 2014, this car underwent an extensive restoration and conversion to GT350 specification. Importantly, the build began with an original six-cylinder fastback shell. Far from being a drawback, six-cylinder cars are often considered an ideal starting point for high-quality restorations and performance builds. Built alongside their V8 counterparts on the same production lines, the bodies are fundamentally the same, whilst six-cylinder cars have typically enjoyed an easier life, having been subjected to lower power outputs and generally less mechanical stress over the years.

At the heart of the car sits a rebuilt 289ci V8 fitted with upgraded 302 cylinder heads, a Holley 600cfm carburettor and electronic ignition. Power is delivered through a smooth-shifting C4 automatic gearbox, making this Mustang equally enjoyable on long-distance touring as it is on local weekend drives.

The restoration included a host of GT350-inspired cosmetic upgrades, alongside substantial mechanical improvements designed to enhance drivability, comfort and reliability. Supporting invoices show significant expenditure with Mustang specialists, including the installation of power rack-and-pinion steering, power-assisted brakes, lowered performance suspension, upgraded cooling components and various fuel, ignition and braking system improvements.

The years of manufacture are shown from the time each model was produced in the final prototype. However, it’s helpful to remember that a small number of cars fall outside of the production dates shown because they are pre-prototype releases, trials or realised ideas. The numbers of each model produced are best estimates, not exact figures. Even with these exceptions, all Pilgrim’s models have passed the necessary tests of their day and are fully road-legal, low-volume-production motor vehicles.
