The facts

Why choose the 1965 Ford Mustang 4.7 Fastback?

Let’s talk about beauty.

After much anticipation here at Pilgrim V8, this incredible original 1965 Fastback finally arrived and what a stunning example she is!

The Ford Mustang needs little introduction. Launched as an icon of American freedom, the Mustang has become a true automotive legend across its seven generations. When Ford introduced the 2+2 Fastback in 1965, it was the must-have model, and it remains so today.

Out of 559,451 Mustangs built in 1965, only 77,079 were Fastbacks. This factory A-code car from Dearborn, Michigan, features the rare combination of a 289 cu in (4.7L) V8, 4-speed manual, finished in Raven Black with a White Crinkle Vinyl interior.

Inside, the sought-after Rally-Pac dials and a rare interior tonneau cover add to its uniqueness.

The original owner, a Dearborn plant employee, moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1983, driving the Mustang all the way with just 17,409 miles on the clock. Returning to Michigan in 1988, the car was sold in 1992 to a close friend of the original owner with just over 19,000 miles. During this time, it became a well-known show car affectionately nicknamed “Black Beauty.”

Arriving in the UK in 2015, the Fastback has had just two UK owners. It received a fresh Raven Black respray and a Borla stainless steel exhaust to enhance the V8’s rumble. The rest remains largely original and in fantastic condition. Factory heads have been upgraded with hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel. The car now shows just 27,247 miles, having mostly attended shows and enjoyed Sunday cruises, winning numerous awards.

Here at Pilgrim V8, we named her “Belle,” honouring her former nickname and inspired by the French word for beauty, the stallion from the TV series, and a beloved Disney princess… a truly fitting name.

The sale included the original owner’s manual, maintenance booklet, service manual, owner’s card, original keys, plus a collection of show plaques and provenance.

A beautifully preserved, well-documented first-generation Fastback Mustang — now sold to an avid classic car enthusiast.

The years of manufacture are shown from the time each model was produced in the final prototype. However, it’s helpful to remember that a small number of cars fall outside of the production dates shown because they are pre-prototype releases, trials or realised ideas. The numbers of each model produced are best estimates, not exact figures. Even with these exceptions, all Pilgrim’s models have passed the necessary tests of their day and are fully road-legal, low-volume-production motor vehicles.
