The facts
Why choose the 1968 Ford Mustang GT 6.3 Fastback?
Authenticity..
It is often a sought-after ingredient when purchasing an iconic classic car. The desirability of the 1967-68 Mustang Fastbacks rocketed since their use as “Hero Cars” in films such as “Bulllit” with Steve McQueen and “Gone in 60 Seconds” with Nicolas Cage, only making them even more collectible and therefore valuable.
This rare factory GT Fastback finished in the glossy Raven Black and Blue Décor Bucket Seats, includes the “GT Equipment Group” consisting of grille mounted fog lights, dual exhausts, heavy duty suspension, GT style wheels, gas cap and side badging as well as the “GT Reflective Group” which changed the “C Stripes” on the side to a reflective decal. The “Visibility Group” was also specified including both wing mirrors, under hood and trunk lights, glove box lights and lock, as well as under dash lights. Further options include a louvered hood, sport deck folding rear seats for hauling larger loads, centre console, power disc brakes and steering, AM/FM stereo, “Interior Décor Group” updated for 1968 with wooden inserts, tinted glass, and the ultra-rare option of a tilt away steering column which is still fully operational!
The restoration did include a few enhancements to make the car more drivable by modern standards and now offers a new, period correct 390Ci (6.3litre) V8 and upgraded 5 speed TKX gearbox over the original 4 speed, with a hydraulic clutch for improved fuel economy and drivability. A renewed and POR treated fuel tank and comp cams help to improve idle speeds.
When you are lucky enough to have a factory GT model which is as rare as this one, the collectability factor dramatically increases! So just how rare is this car I hear you ask?! In 1968 317404 Mustangs rolled off the production lines. Only 42581 were Fastbacks and only 12087 of these were built with the GT Equipment Group. Further still, only 1516 units were produced with this paint code and out of these only 6 were built with the blue interior trim – this is one of those 6 cars! Built at the Metuchen Plant in Philadelphia and sold via Royal Ford in the same county which is where the car spent most of its life with its first owner! In 1996 it was brought over to Norway and then to the UK in 2015 by its current owner.
A full detailed Marti Report confirms the originality of this lovely Fastback together with comprehensive provenance, build sheets and bill of sale. Further details can be provided on request. Sadly for the owner, a change of personal change in circumstance requires letting “The Duchess” go.
The current owner’s focus was to authentically rebuild this car to replicate its factory spec as much as can be possible today together with our teams knowledge and experience, and the results speak for themselves! A truly faithful, authentic and no expense spared restoration which must be physically seen and experienced to be appreciated properly! Although we’d be sad to see “The Duchess” leave our shop, it’s your turn to enjoy her company!

The years of manufacture are shown from the time each model was produced in the final prototype. However, it’s helpful to remember that a small number of cars fall outside of the production dates shown because they are pre-prototype releases, trials or realised ideas. The numbers of each model produced are best estimates, not exact figures. Even with these exceptions, all Pilgrim’s models have passed the necessary tests of their day and are fully road-legal, low-volume-production motor vehicles.
